Independence approves two road grants, updates sick leave

NJ INDEPENDENCE — Independence Township Committee approves two NJDOT road grants and sick leave policy update. The committee unanimously approved grant applications for Townsbury Road Resurfacing and Cemetery Road Resurfacing Section 1 to be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Transportation, with Mayor Giordano and Township Clerk authorized to sign the agreements. The committee also amended the sick leave policy to comply with N.J.S.A. 11A:6-19.2, replacing annual separation payments with retirement-only compensation; full-time employees receive 15 working days of sick leave annually, with payment upon retirement at either their December 31, 2009 balance (for pre-2010 hires) or one-half of accumulated days up to $15,000 (for post-2009 hires).
